The Legacy of
Slava Gabrielov

A life in music, memory, and meaning.

Nearly twenty-five years ago, Galina and Slava Gabrielov established their original piano studio in Houston, Texas, grounded in disciplined classical training and uncompromising artistic standards.

Slava Gabrielov was a high-caliber musician: a respected pianist, educator, composer, and music editor whose pedagogical influence shaped generations of musicians. His students earned top prizes in more than fifteen major international piano competitions, and many went on to pursue distinguished professional careers in performance and academia.

His teaching career spanned more than 35 years across Russia, Europe, and the United States.

He served as:

  • Dean, Russian Academy of Music (Moscow)

  • Professor, Russian Academy of Theatre Arts

  • Adjunct Professor, University of North Texas

  • Head of Piano Department, Montenegro Academy of Music

His performance history included collaborations with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, appearances in major European venues, and extensive work with leading opera and ballet soloists. As an editor for Musika Publishing (Moscow), he prepared nearly one hundred scholarly piano editions widely used throughout conservatories of the former Soviet Union. His work as composer, conductor, accompanist, and producer extended across numerous theatrical and musical productions throughout Europe and Russia.

Legacy

While Slava is no longer with us (October 16, 1939 – May 25, 2018), his artistic discipline and pedagogical principles remain integral to Gala Piano Studio.

His legacy endures not only in memory but in method.

Today, Gala Piano Studio continues to build on the same foundation: refined technique, architectural clarity, stylistic integrity, and expressive depth. Each student is trained within a structured classical framework, yet guided with a deeply personal, tailored approach — honoring individual talent while upholding the highest artistic standards.

This is not merely a studio built on reputation. It is a studio built on lineage. Over the years, the studio cultivated many dedicated young artists, several of whom went on to pursue professional careers in performance and music education.
